Approach:
From the shriek of factory bells to the hymns of the local fundamentalist congregation, the sleepy town of Dublin, Missouri is emblematic of Midwestern life. Beneath its picturesque exterior, however, simmers the politics, gossip, and deception that are equally characteristic of small-town life. In Book of Days, the polite mask of this community is ripped away, leaving each character, and each audience member, to struggle with his or her convictions and beliefs.
One of the things that drew me to this script is how recognizable and familiar these characters are. If you grew up or have lived in a small Midwestern town, these people (and these problems) have been a part of your life. At the heart of this play is truth, conviction, power, and small town politics which range from the benign to the truly frightening.
Note: this production was my final at Bowling Green State University, before beginning work at the University of Wyoming.
